LORRY AND CAR COLLIDE

SMASH ON BRIDGE AT TE KUITI (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Monday. Shortly before noon yesterday a collision occurred on the King:' Street Bridge. over the Mangaokewa River at Te Kuiti, between a service car driven by Mr. A. C. Dent, and a White lorry owned by Mr. J. Pulford and driven by Mi’. T. Wallace. The shingle-laden lorry was approaching the bridge from the town side, and on the approach of the service car attempted to pull up, but apparently unsuccessfully. The service car continued on to the bridge and the lorry collided with the left-hand rail of the structure, the car’s front mudguard striking the lorry. The left front wheel of the lorry was sheared off as a result of the impact with the bridge and damage was done to the springs. The mudguards of the car were damaged. The service car contained the driver only, who escaped unhurt. The rails of the bridge were broken. MOTOR-CYCLIST HURT

CAR GOES OVER BANK (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, Monday. A new car, driven by Mr. Agnew, and containing Mrs. Agnew and Mr. and Mrs. D. Thompson, in trying to avoid a motor-cyclist, went over a 30ft bank last evening. The motor-cyclist received two broken ribs and Mrs. Agnew slight concussion. The others escaped with minor abrasions. The car was badly damaged.
