REFORM WILL CONTEST MANUKAU SEAT

HAURAKI CANDIDATES INTEREST IN ELECTIONS The Reform Party is not going to let Mr. Jordan, M.P., retain the Manukjiu seat if it can help it. The party executive has announced its decision to contest the seat. It was thought in some quarters that in view of Mr. Jordan’s departure for Canada—he was a passenger by the Aorangi from Auckland to-day. a member of the Parliamentary party—he would be permitted to retain the seat without a contest. Such, however, will not be the case. LIKELY CANDIDATES The Reform organisation was busily engaged last evening considering the names of likely candidates to carry the Reform banner in an endeavour to regain the Manukau seat. Overtures are being made in connection with certain city scats for wellknown citizens to contest them in the Reform interests, and deputations in that connection, are planned. Reform party delegates will meet a.t Mercer on August 15 to choose the candidate for the new Hauraki seat. Tho latest Reform aspirant for this seat is Mr. Harold C. Bull, of Mangere, one of the founders of the Auckland Whole-milk Producers’ Association, and a well-known farmer in the Waingaro district. Another* prospective candidate is Mr J. M. Turnbull, storekeeper, of Glen Massey, in the interests of the United Political Party for the Raglan seat. Mr. Turnbull was born in Otago, 48 years ago, and is a son of Mr. William Turnbull, who . was associated with the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., for many years. Mr. Turnbull has had experience of public service, especially in the Bay of Plenty, where he resided for many years. He was Mayor and a councillor of Whakatane, and was the council’s and business men’s representative on the Bay of Plenty Development League. He was also chairman of the Whakatane Racing Club’s committee, and now, at Glen Massey, is taking a keen interest in all sport.
