“BRINGING UP FATHER” “Bringing Up Father,” a picture based on the famous newspaper cartoons, will be shown at the Tudor Theatre, Remuera, for the last time this evening. Commencing to-morrow the Tudor will present John Gilbert in “The Merry Widow.” “The Merry Widow” is a story of kings’ courts and princes’ courtships, told amidst the picturesque beauty of the Balkans. The tale is of a pretty young dancing girl who became betrothed to a prince, but who was jilted on her wedding day because he was of the blood royal, and she but a commoner. But when she inherited the fortune behind the throne, how she embarrassed that court, dancing the while to the tune of tinkling glasses, and tripping over masculine hearts. "What a sensation she caused, especially in the heart of her royal lover! John Gilbert interprets the impetuous Prince Danilo, and gives a most sincere and skilful presentation of that young man’s romantic and jealous temperament. Richard Dix in “The Gay Defender” will also be presented.
Airplane pictures are quite in favour among the movie-loving public, but had an audience witnessed the filming of “The Phantom Flyer,” *AI Wilson’s latest Universal Western air film, they would have seen a near catastrophe that would have satisfied the most critical thrill-seeker. A 1 does a few wrestling tricks on the wing of a plane thousands of feet in the air. and while thus engaged, a gust of wind came close to taking him off his balance and Introducing him to a long drop to earth. Fortunately, Al’s sense of balance came to the rescue, and he has been saved to thrill many more audiences, ——
