LAST OF THE HUIAS

NONE SEEN SINCE 1914 The last huia seen in the Dominion was reported at the head of the Wanganui River in 1914. Mr. R. A. Falla, the Auckland naturalist, blames collectors for their extinction. When it was known that the bird was getting rare, he told an audience at the Methodist College on Saturday, the Dominion was combed for them. As the huias always hunted in pairs, it was comparatively easy to catch them.
