TRACKLESS TRAIN ARRIVES IN SYDNEY

FOUR YEARS’ JOURNEY The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer trackless train, a novel application of the internal combustion motor to a set of vehicles modelled like a powerful steam locomotive, with tender and Pullman coach, has arrived in Sydney, in the course of a journey which has already lasted for four years, and has covered about 160,000 miles. Throughout this journey, which has extended throughout North America, South America, a great part of Europe and Northern Africa, the train has been conducted by Mr. Edward Carrier, who is still in charge. This train, which was organised for publicity purposes by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer proprietary, left New* York in 1924. It is propelled by two motors, each of 90-h.p., in the locomotive, while there is an additional 60-h.p. motor in the Pullman coach, which may if necessary be detached from the remainder of the train, and is then entirely independent of the locomotive portion. The whole train is 52 feet long, and w’eighs 11 tons. The train came from Panama to Brisbane, and at the Central Railway station was met by inter-State delegates, who will attend the fourth annual convention of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in Sydney, and conveyed them to the Australia Hotel.
