Labour Whip Plays George Washington
( THE SUSS Parliamentary IZeportt WELLINGTON, Friday. George Washington had nothing on Mr. D. G. Sullivan, member for Avon, and Labour Whip in parliament. When a slight omission on his part seemed to demand it this afternoon, Mr. Sullivan “tip spake” in the true Washingtonian style to admit his fault with refreshing candour. The amusing interlude arose !ohen past experience of many similar happenings led Mr. H. E. Holland to protest against the presentation of the State Eire Insurance Department's report without notice. u l know there is no obligation on the part of Ministers to give us noticelie said, “but it would greatly help the work, of the, House if they would do so.” Mr. J. S. Dickson, Government Whip, rose to make an explanation, but Mr. Sullivan was in first. He explained that the Government Whip had informed him that the report would be tabled, but he had not been able to tell Mr. Holland. It ivas entirely his fault. 80, with smiles. the matter closed.
