WOMEN’S NATIONAL COUNCIL Yesterday afternoon th© executive of the Women’s National Council in Hamilton gave a very interesting afternoon tea in the Circle Room of th© Lyceum Club. The guest of honour was Mrs. A. I. Fraer, J.P., of Christchurch. Mrs. Fraer, who is the Dominion president of the National Council, will be its representative at th© women’s conference in Honolulu next month. During the afternoon several subjects of importance were discussed conversationally, and the short afternoon passed all too soon. Those members who were present were: Dr. de la More, Mesdames H. Valder, E. English, W. J. Stevens, Caldwell, A. G. Sanford, Craig, H. Holloway, Kent-Johnson, M. Maning, G. Buckland, Nicholas, Cracknell, Andrews, Graham, and Mfcs Wyatt * * « MOTHERS’ UNION On Thursday afternoon the monthly meeting of the Frankton branch of the Mothers’ Union was held, when a large number of members were present. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. E. Jones. One distinction of the service was that it was the first baptism of a baby of a mother of this branch. .The feature of the afternoon tea was the christening cake of baby Varna VY arneford. Mrs. Beeche, president of the union, m welcoming those present, including the baby, her mother and grandmother, particularly extended a welcome to the Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Jones, who have recently come from Bulls. Kent-Johnson, the honorary secretary, then gave a very interesting talk on the objects of the union, and at its conclusion Mrs. J. Prenton proposed a hearty vote of thanks for her able address.

COMING-OF-AGE PARTY On Wednesday, Mrs. J. Ritchie gave 2r Y, er - y en J°yable evening in Toorak Hall m honour of the coming-of-age of her daughter Eileen. The decorations were daintily carried out in mauve and pink. Competitions were won by Mrs. Hodgkinson and Mr. H. Graham and Miss Stewart and Mr A* Hodgkinson, and the Monte Carlo dance by Miss Sybil Graham and Mr Gunn. The guests included: Mesdames J. Ritchie, Barker, J. Nell, W.
