NO FLIGHT STAMP
DEPARTMENT EXPLAINS WHY (Special to THE SL'Xj WELLINGTON, Friday. “There will be no special stamp issued by the Post and Telegraph Department to commemorate the first flight across the Tasman,” the Secretary of the department, Mr. G. McNamara, said to-day. To issue such a stamp would take !at least six months, for the depart - | ment has decided to have all future | | designing and printing of stamps done in Great Britain. Also, there is a ! j question of etiquette between postal | departments which would make such j an issue by New Zealand out of place. • | In addition, there is the fact that , | philatelists view issues of stamps with ! j suspicion, and New Zealand has no j desire to lay herself open the criticism that she is attempting to make money from such an issue. A clear profit of from £ 4.000 to £ 5,000 is made i by the department from collectors on i each new stamp issued. *
