RAILWAY PROFITS

JUNE SHOWS INCREASE TWELVE WEEKS’ LOSS OF £55,000 Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. A working profit of £54,193 for the four weeks ended June 23 is shown by the Railway Department’s workingaccount, which is roughly £ 10,000 greater than that for the same period last vear, when the figures were £44,079. Following is a summary of the returns from railway operating in the North and the South Island and from the whole service, together with the increase over tho corresponding figure for the June period last year: NORTH ISLAND

For the period of S 4 days to June 23, working profits have totalled £279,675, as against £335,055 (S 6 days) last year, and £419,136 (88 days) in 1926. This year’s total comprises £148,215 from the North Island railways, a decrease of £44,664: £73,165 from the South Island railways, a decrease of £15,879, and £58,295 from miscellaneous revenue, an increase of £ 5,133. The net revenue for the 12 weeks is £55,410 less than that for the corresponding period last year.
