SLIPS ON BRANCH LINE

MINERS’ TRAINS HELD UP

(From Our Own Correspondent.) HUNTLY, To-day. A heavy fall of earth completely blocked the railway line between Mahuta and Huntly yesterday afternoon, holding up both the evening trains from Pukemiro and Glen Afton. Mine employees from nine carriages had to walk home in the heavy rain. The slip was not cleared till midnight, and pilot working of the trains between Huntly and scene of the accident was instituted this morning. A filling subsided about seven miles from Huntly between Rotowaro and Pukemiro, and the morning train from Glen Afton was nearly two hours late in arriving. Permanent repairs are now being made by a large staff of workmen from the surrounding railway gangs, and trains are running under reduced speed through the affected areas.
