BRITANNIA
VAUDEVILLE AND PICTURES “Tillie’s Punctured Romance,” the uproarious comedy which will be shown at the Britannia Theatre this evening, is remarkable in that there are three leading comedy actors— Chester Conklin, W. C. Fields, and Louise Fazenda. An all-star vaudeville will also be presented, including Delroy and Delaney in comedy song and dance; Dane and Daley, tumble-acrobats; Jack Dale, on the xylophone; and the Deniston Sisters, harmonisers.
“SADIE THOMPSON” AT GRAND
“Sadie Thompson,” which will be shown again this evening at the Grand Theatre, is a story of love and adventure on a South Sea island. The story tells of an outcast girl who is loved by a sergeant of marines, but hated by Atkinson, a fervent missionary. Building up to high dramatic levels, the story unfolds with one amazing and unexpected development following another to the point where Atkinson’s blind determination and lack of human understanding, while threatening the destruction of Sadie, proves a boomerang, and results in his own defeat. And Sadie’s salvation is achieved not through the influence of the reformer, but through the love and simple faith of the marine, O’Hara.
With Miss Swanson as the fascinating Sadie, and Raoul Walsh as O’Hara, the cast of “Sadie Thompson” presents Lionel Barrymore as the reformer, Charles Lane, Floience Midgley. James A. Marcus, Sophia Ortega, Will Stanton, and others.
A strong supporting programme is also being shown.
