CHATHAM CUP MATCHES
QUESTION OF FINANCE DOMINION COUNCIL’S DECISIONS Press Association. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Council of the New Zealand Football Association, at a meeting this evening, received a letter from the Auckland Association stating that the committee could not guarantee Canterbury £lls to go to Auckland for the Football Association trophy. Auckland was prepared to meet Canterbury or any other challenging province under Brown Shield rules. The Canterbury Association suggested that the council should order the match to be played in Wellington. Canterbury also asked the lowest cash guarantee which Auckland would accept to go to Christchurch. Canterbury declined to visit Auckland under Brown Shield rules. The secretary reported that all the associations had agreed to play for the Football Association trophy under the new rules. It was purely a question of finance. The council agreed that it could not put the match on in Wellington. It was decided that the first match be played between Canterbury and Wellington, Wellington to guarantee the expenses of the Canterbury team. This course was adopted in view of the smaller expense in bringing the Canterbury team Wellington.
