1 On some cars the rear axle filler orifice is drilled to act as a breather, and it is in such a position that any excess lubricant in the casing- is thrown out on to the luggage grid, spare wheel, and so forth. As this makes for unnecessary untidiness at the rear of the car. the pipe should be bent so that when there is an overflow of lubricant it is thrown clear of the bodywork. Alternatively, an extension can be added to the pipe or a small shield fixed over the existing vent.
