THREE LAMPS THEATRE
MODERN PICTURE HOUSE TO BE BUILT
MORE O’BRIEN ENTERPRISE A new picture theatre embodying all devices that make for the comfort of an audience is to be built by the Thomas A. O’Brier Theatres, Limited, on the site of the Britannia Theatre at Three Lamps. The old theatre will be demolished, and the new one will have almost double its capacity. Tenders are to be called immediately, and the new theatre will be opened before the end of the year. Designed in modern style by Mr. F. Brown, the theatre will have the dress circle and stalls rising in a gradual ramp from the footlights to the operating box. This arrangement allows for the maximum sight line comfort with the minimum climb to the dress circle seats. The proscenium arch and opening will b© of ample size, and there will be a large modern stage fully equipped with electrical lighting. The lighting scheme will allow three or four colour combinations to be thrown on the proscenium arch and ceiling. The general decorative scheme will be semiatmospheric. While the theatre itself will be a pleasant place in which to pass an evening, the management has made the necessary arrangements for the provision of first-class programmes. First run exhibitions of the leading films showing at city theatres will be arranged, and, in addition, there is to be a pleasing leavening of vaudeville on the programmes. There will also be a strong orchestra and other music is to be provided by a British cinema organ, and a radio device playing gramophone records by a new sound production process.
