The reason for the present high prices is attributed to the new crop almonds coming on to the market at a time when it was bare, and overseas buyers immediately availed themselves of the low rates ruling to cover in very heavily, but as their buyers will not look at the high rates to which the market has been forced, there is every reason to expect that lower prices must rule shortly. BORAX Latest information from London is to the effect that prices of both borax and boracic acid are now slightly lower, reductions of about £1 being listed in each case. CLOTHES PEGS The local market has been fairly well Stocked during the past few months, but supplies are likely to be short before long, as advice has been received that owing to the heavy demand from Great Britain, only limited shipments of Canadian pegs can be made to this Dominion during the next three months. PRIED FRUITS

Quotations for new season’s Greek currants remain firm with a fair volume of business being placed. Smyrna sultanas have advanced on opening I'ates with little interest being shown at present. All varieties of Californian dried fruits continue to decline, the reductions this week being—unbleached Thompson’s seedless raisins 9d a cwt., oil and soda bleached 6d a cwt. Seedless raisins in cartons, both fancy and choice grades, are reduced Is 3d a cwt. The above alterations all refer to new season’s fruit, for shipment in September/October from San Francisco.
