PAEROA AFFAIRS TRAFFIC ON EAST COAST LINE The railway traffic for the monthlyperiod shows that the Bay of Plenty section of the East Coast line continues to be well patronised by the farming community and general public. The passengers carried numbered 5.207 (revenue £1.216); parcels and luggage. £128: cattle and calves, 2.615: sheep and pigs, S.3SS: timber. 7 8,300 superficial feet: general goods. 6.707 tons: mixed revenue. £l2: making a total revenue for the four weeks of £ 7,510. For the eight weeks’ period from April 1 to May 20. 6.190 passengers, 17.410 sheep, 4.905 cattle. 227.200 super feet of timber, and 10.560 tons of general goods passed through Paeroa to or from the East Coast. Members of the Public Works staff met last week to say farewell to Mr. H. Briffault, who has been transferred to Riverton. Mr. O. G. Thornton, resident engineer, presided and said that the work of constructing the Kopu Bridge had been in the hands of Mr. Briffault. and paid a tribute to bis work and popularity. Mr. Briffault was presented with a case of silver-mounted pipes and a tobacco pouch.

WAIHI PRESENTATION On the eve of his departure from Waihi, Mr. Douglas Cole, the popular secretary of the Waihi Athletic Football Club, was presented with an Italian marble inkstand by members and supporters of the club. In making the presentation Mr. Alex. Waite referred to the untiring efforts of Mr. Cole in the interests of the club. | and stressed the fact that the sound financial position of the club at the moment was due solely to Mr. Cole’s work.
