FOOD AND SHELTER

EIGHTY MEN HOUSED Since the Parnell shelter for men opened its doors three weeks ago, not one deserving man has been turned away and beds have been supplied to about 80 each night. On some evenings the place was so full that men had to sleep on the floor. The generosity of Auckland firms, institutions and individuals, who give money, foodstuffs and clothing, allows the organising committee to help the homeless in many ways. A share of the clothing collected in the commercial travellers’ drive went to the shelter. Through the efforts of the committee work has been found for 26 men and the fares to the country of 15 men who were seeking employment were paid.
