BUTTER RATES FIRM
SLOW DEMAND IN CHEESE MARKET
“The butter market is quiet but firm. It is expected retail prices will advance next week,” says a cable, dated July 20, to the New Zealand Dairy Board from its London office.
Prices, with those for the previous week in parentheses, are:
Butter.—New Zealand, salted, 182 s to 186 s (178 s to lS2s); unsalted, 186 s to 190 s (180 sto 186 s). Deliveries this week, S2O tons; in store, 5,300 tons. Australian finest salted, 170 s to 176 s (166s’to 1725); unsalted, 176 s to 17Ss (16Ss to 1745) Argentine, finest unsalted, 166 sto 170 s (164 s to 16Ss). Irish creamery, salted. 17Ss to ISOs (170 s); unsalted, ISOs to lS2s (1745). Danish, lS2s to 184 s; spot, (180 sto 182 s); f.0.b., 174 sto 176 s (1745) Dutch creamery, unsalted, 176 s to 17Ss (168 s to 170 s). Esthonian, salted, 16Ss» to 174 s (164 s to 1665); unsalted, 172 s to 176 s (166 s to 16Ss). Latvian, salted, 168 s to 172 s (162 s to 1645); unsalted, 170 s to 172 s (164 sto 1665). Lithuanian. salted, -54 s (154 s to 158 s); unsalted. 164 s (160 s to 1625). Cheese.—New Zealand, white and coloured, Ills to 112 s (110 s to 112 s). Deliveries this week, 26,000 crates; in store, 73,500 crates. Canadian, white and coloured, 109 s to 110 s (108 s to 110 s). The market is quieter and the demand steady English, finest farmers’, 126 s to 130 s (124 s to 12Ss). Retail price increased to Is 2d
The Turakina finished discharging cheese on July 14 and the Hororata on July 13. The Maimoa commenced and finished discharging butter on July 17. The Port Dunedin commenced discharging cheese on July 18 and finished on July 19.
F. 0.8. Sales.—Cheese: Sales have been made at 91d to the end of December make and 9}d has been offered for the entire season’s make. Butter: Sales have been made at Is 5d a lb net f.o.b. for parcels of 1.000 boxes for shipment each month from October to February, inclusive, to Eastern Canada. Offers have also been made of Is 6 1-Sd for finest grade for August shipment, Is 6d September shipment and Is s’.d October shipment.
Joseph Nathan, Ltd., received the following cablegram on Saturday from their London house, Trengrouse and Nathan, Ltd.: Butter, lS6s; cheese, 110 s to Ills. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., Hamilton, has received the following cablegram from its London office: The butter market is quiet at the advance. New Zealand is selling at lS5s to lS6s. The cheese market is slow. Quotations: 110 s to 112 s. The ■weather continues very warm and dry.
