PRIMA DONNA STRANGLED
MURDER IN BELGIUM SIGNS OF TERRIBLE STRUGGLE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) ( United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. BRUSSELS, To-day. An armed Pole who was found in a ditch near by was arrested when a well-known prima donna, Madame Evelyne Brelia, who had a European reputation, was found dead at Charleroi in circumstances recalling the recent murder of an Englishwoman on the links at Le Touquet. Her husband, M. Quinet, who is the director of the Charleroi Conservatoire, went for a swim. When he returned he found his wife had gone to pick flowers. When she did not return he organised a search, which lasted all night. Madame Brelia’s body was found hidden in the undergrowth 50 yards from her home. She had been strangled and some of her clothing was stuffed in her mouth. There was every evidence of a terrible struggle. The murderer had tried to burn the body. The dead woman's jewellery had not been taken.
