MR, GEORGE GROSSMITH, who has had more than 35 years’ experience of London audiences as a comedian, agrees with George Robey that it is
“harder than ever to be funny in the theatre.” “George Robey is quite right,” he said. The films have made it much more difficult for speaking c omedians. George Grossmith They have practically killed the clown on the stage.” Mr. Grossmith’s brother Lawrence toured New Zealand some years ago with “Captain Applejohn’s Adventure,” and other pieces.
