EVERYBODY’S AND TIVOLI
TWO BIG PICTURES An hilarious farce-comedy of backstage life, frantic weeks of life in theatrical boarding houses, and hectic promoting of free meals, is now on view at the Everybody’s and Tivoli Theatres. The picture is “Lady, Be Good!” a First National production based on the musical comedy success of that name. Dorothy Mackaill aryl Jack Mulhall in the featured roles romp through the delightful comedy in the manner that has made them such highly popular players, and a strong supporting cast lends itself commendably to the comedy scenes. Mulhall plays the role of a vaudeville magician With two ambitions in life. One is to elrl f f. n f T agen i ent at the Palace The- . -£’ ew York —the dream of every vaudeville performer, however lowly—and the other is to
marry his assistant, Miss Mackaill. Amusing' as are the scenes back-stage in the theatre, the real fun begins when the magician and his assistant are out of work, and must convince the suspicious landlady of a theat- _ rical boarding house that they are rolling Marion Dixon in wealth. Much of the credit for this hilarious comedy must go to Richard Wallace, who has contributed many excellent pictures of lighter vein to the screen in the past two years. The second attraction is the highly dramatic story, “The Chinese Parrot.” The plot is simple, that of a man who goes out into the world to amass a great fortune, so that he may repay the girl who spurned his love in his own sensational way. But after he gains his wealth, and the opportunity arises, he is not capable of following through with his original plans. The actors are few, but perfectly cast. Marian Nixon and Edmund Burns carry the feature roles in the picture, although Hobart Bosworth and K. Sojin, noted Chinese actor, are also prominent. To them and to Leni, that great Continental director, goes the credit for a perfectly presented melodrama, full of fine acting and good directing. '
