ENGLISH HORSE PURCHASED WHIRLWIND, BY GALLOPER LIGHT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and NZ Press Association. I (United Service) Reed. 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Thur*. On behalf of the Auckland Stud Company, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie purchased the four-year-old stallion Whirlwind, by Galloper Light out of Double Back, and also two thoroughbred mares in foal to New Zealand time, with the object of entering their projeny for New Zealand clas-ic events.
Whirlwind, who is a chestnut, will rank as a five-year-old to New Zealand tir..He did not race at two years, and in hi second season on the turf he started bui once. The sire of Whirlwind. Gallop* Light, was got by the Derby winner Sur.star, by Sundridge, by Amphion; fr m Santa Fina. by St. Frusquin, by St Simon, by Gallopin. Galloi er Light is flow 12 years old, and his fee is 250 guineas. Last season he was r presented ty 17 horses, who between ’hem. won 24 races and £20,174 in stake money, while in the preceding year he had 14 hor- s for 17 wins and £5.368. Double Back, »h----dam of Whirlwind, had one horse to r« - present her on the turf In 1926. this being the brilliant three-year-old filly Pillion, by Chaucer, who won two important One Thousand Guineas at Newmarket. in a field of 29, and the St»w - ards’ six furlongs at Nottingham. with 7.13, giving away weight to all by two of the ten runners. Whirlwind is a haK brother to Pillion, so that on the score of breeding he should make a V»ig anneal to Dominion stndmasters
