Heeney will Attempt to Corner Tunney
CLOSE-UP SMITING NEW ZEALANDER’S PLAN CUnited P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) Reed. I p.m. MONTREAL, Thurs. A message from Fairhaven states that Tom Heeney has commenced his last week of training, and at present weighs five or six pounds more than he will when he faces Tunney. But the challenger is in excellent condition, and can easily get down to the weight In the short time. His trainers have perfect faith in him, and allow him to dictate his own training programme. It. is believed Heeney’s tactics will be to try to chase Tunney to a corner, and pound away at close quarters until the champion wilts. The great question is whether Tom can chase Tunney into a corner, because Dempsey could not do so. At Speculator Tunney has increased the intensity of his training. Six rounds of fast fighting showed that his greatest weakness was when he was crowded on to the ropes, when he was subjected to a battery of blows which he. appeared unable to ward off. This type of in-fighting is considered to be the champion’s chief concern.
