WANT RAASAY
AUSTRALIAN INQUIRERS PRICE STOPPED THEM During the Wellington winter meetin there were inquiries with a view to the purchase of the Hawke’s Bav gelding Raasay, but so far as can be gathered at the time of writing nothing has come of the negotiations. Apparently several people, including some Australians, would like to own the Lord Quex gelding, but his ownei# is not prepared to part with him except at a very high figure. Raasay has always been held in very high regard by his owner and trainer and it is possible—more than that, it is probable—the best has not yet been seen of him. Raasay has engagements in Australia this spring, and might fulfil them. Among the races he can contest if he goes across is the valuable Australian Jockey Club Derby, to be run at Randwick. Mollison seems to dominate the situation in regard to the Derby, but there is always the possibility of something going wrong with the favourite, and, in any case, there are other races that would suit Raasay quite as well as the classic mile and a-half.
