PAPATOETOE HOME
GOOD YEAR’S WORK Good work had been done during the year, according to the annual report of the Papatoetoe Orphan Home Trust Board. There has been an increase in the number of children maintained, the average during the year being 77. Admissions numbered 18, and 11 had been removed to employment or to the care of relatives. Altogether 32 children, under 21 years of age—2B boys and four girls—were in employment. The report of tho medical officer stated that the children’s health was excellent, and a report from the actingheadmaster of the Papatoetoe school stated that the pupils from the home had progressed from satisfactory to good. The elder boys were showing a real interest in the farm work. With the increase of children, the cost of maintenance had been greater. The diocesan office had taken over the secretarial and office work, resulting in a reduction in these costs. The herd of cows on the. farm had been improved, the increased cream cheque showing a good result. On the year’s iWorking, a deficit .£594 wag shown.
