FARMERS’ VIEWPOINTS
PURE SEEDS AND PETROL TAX UNION WITH DAIRYMEN Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Thursday. A Pure Seeds Bill, making it compulsory for merchants to sell under a guaranteed germination test, was asked for at the annual conference of the Dairy Farmers’ Union to-day. Tho Government will be asked to abolish tho £2 annual motor licence fee, and the practice of renewing number plates each year, which was considered a waste of money. Some delegates considered it more equitable to pay an increased petrol tax instead of an annual licence fee as roads users would then pay for them.
The compulsory dehorning of cattle over two years old was favoured. Mr. N. Campbell, of Kauwhata, was elected president. Delegates from the Farmers’ Union urged that the Dairy Farmers’ Union should federate with their body. The conference favoured federation providing their union did not lose its identity. Representatives were appointed to meet the Dominion executive of the Farmers’ Union in Wellington to conclude matters.
