Hats Off — to the Mission
Mountain of Headgear HELPING AUCKLAND’S NEEDY Hats Thousands of them. Of every shape and size—to be precise, 5,000 of them! The disposal of part of last week’s cha.ritjr drive by the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association, attracted a large number this morning to the Methodist Central Mission. Most conspicuous of all were the heaps of head-gear awaiting dispersal. Much rummaging among these relics of past fashions followed. The offerings had almost a similar appeal to the fair sex as a bargain sale. But it was not only hats that were given away. A contingent of willing workers had a busy time sorting other articles of wearing apparel. A pathetic feature in connection with the disposal of the gifts was the largo number of Maoris who responded More or less destitute, they were only too happy to accept what the Mission Committee had to give them.
