MAJESTIC

“BRINGING UP FATHER” TO-MORROW “Sadie Thompson,” based on \V. Somerset Maugham’s famous story, “Rain,” and starring Gloria Swanson, will have its final presentation at the Majestic Theatre this evening. To-night, will also see the final appearance of the Harris Sisters Mildred and Connie —who have been delighting everyone with their scintillating programme. To-morrow is the day when “Bringing Up Father,” based on the famous newspaper cartoon, will have its initial presentation in Auckland. This new programme could without doubt be called a laughter programe, for it is certain that the l'un will, wax met - lily right from the opening bars of the introductory march by Mr. White-ford-Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra, to the final scene of the funniest film ever screened. The chief film on this programme is “Bringing Up Father.” The picture is a literal adaptation of George McManus's famous cartoons. Polly Moran plays Maggie, the redoubtable wife of Jiggs, and Marie Dressier takes the role of Mrs. Dinty Moore. J. Farrell MacDonald, wellknown character actor, is Jiggs. Gertrude Olmsted, who came to the screen by way of a beauty contest, is the Jiggses’ beautiful daughter. The picture is one long guffaw from beginning to end. It begins when the Jiggses, steerage passengers from old Dublin, arrive in America in company with the Dinty Moores, and takes them up to the time they attempt to high hat their corn-beef-and-cabbage origin in their entertainment of nobility at a Long Island show place. If you don’t want to laugh till your sides hurt, better stay away from “Bringing Up Father.” The most novel and most humorous act ever presented in New Zealand will be by “Jerry,” the fighting kangaroo, who challenges allcomers to meet him on the Majestic stage. Jerry is a merry and sprightly animal who holds his head well back and springs off his tail, literally and unexpectedly Another merry item on the programme will be “The College Widow,” a football comedj' with dainty Dolores ! Costello and William Collier, jun., in j the leading roles. A Majestic Magazine with the latest I world news concludes the pictorial proi gramme. | A very bright musical programme ; will be rendered by J.
