MUNICIPAL CONCERT
ORGAN AND SINGING There was a fair attendance at the Town Hall last evening when another municipal concert of a high standard was contributed by Mr. Mauglian Barnett, city organist, assisted by Miss Mina Caldow and Mr. Leo Whittaker. Mr. Barnett opened the programme with Guilmant’s “Marche aux Flambeaux,” followed by Alfred Hollins’s dainty “Intermezzo,” a delightful number very ably presented. Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in C Minor,” the big number of the evening, was handled with the organist’s usual consumate artistry, while Schubert’s “By the Sea” was contributed with nice taste and expression. Wolstenholme’s “Sonata in D,” the “Miserere” scene from Verdi’s “II Trovatore,” and “The Jolly Miller,” arranged for organ and bells, were also included in a very pleasing programme. Vocal numbers by Miss Mina Caldow proved very acceptable. These included Busch’s “I Had a Dove,” “He Shall Feed His Flock,” from “The Messiah.” and the “Habanera” and “Sequidilla,” from Bizet’s “Carmen.” Miss Caldow also had to give several encore numbers. Mr. Leo Whittaker provided the accompaniments in his usual artistic manner.
