TRAM FARE UNPAID

FINE OF TEN SHILLINGS An attempt to evade the payment of his fare on a Dominion Road tram cost C. Yardley 10s and costs at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. It was stated defendant at first refused to pay the fare, but later tendered a £lO note which the conductor could not change. Subsequently the tramways department wrote to defendant, requesting payment, but the letter was ignored. The department did not wish to make money from fines, but brought forward such cases as a warning to passengers who evaded the payment of fares.
