Hotels in the Air
To Cross Atlantic
DANCING AMONG CLOUDS
Two great airships which will be as much hotels as the big ocean liners are to be ready lor passenger work next September. One is being built at the works of the Airship Guarantee Company at the Howden Airdrome, Yorkshire, and the other, ordered by the British Government, is in preparation at the Iloyal Airship Works at Cardington.
Both of the airships are designed for the purpose of carrying one hundred passengers across the Atlantic Ocean in a day and a-half. Here are some of the facilities the huge dirigibles will provide for their passengers.
A restaurant to seat fifty persons. Promenade decks suitable for dancing. Cabins for one hundred people, fitted with bunks and electric light, together with accommodation for one hundred pounds of baggage per person. A smoking lounge. Two balconies furnished with armchairs from which passengers may enjoy the scenery below, even if it is only the Atlantic’s lonely wastes. Concert and entertainments, including a cinema show.
The airships will travel at about 90 miles an hour, but passengers, because of the special devices fitted to ensure stability, will have little idea of the speed with which they are being borne across the sky.
