WITHIN ESTIMATE

DEVONPORT ROAD WORK COUNCIL SATISFIED Devonport councillors were pleased last evening to receive from the treasurer a detailed account of expenditures for the widening of Queen’s Parade to form a huge parking area for motor traffic at the head of the new wharf. When the work was to be put in band the council hesitated whether to do it by day labour or by contract, and by a majority of one day labour was adopted. The accounts showed that over 2,000 square yards of concreted surface have been added to the former road width of 66ft, widening the roadway to 165 ft between kerbs. Including footpaths, the whole work has been done for £ 3,877. which is £4OO below the engineer’s estimate.
