A number of suggestions placed before the Counties’ Conference to-day by the North Island Motor Union were sym pathetically received. It was agreed that the penalties under the Act for wandering stock should be increased and that the front trusses of bridges should be painted white in order to increase the visibility at night. The president, Mr. A. E. Jull, said anything the county councils could do to make the roads safer for motorists would be done willingly. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President, Mr. A. E. Jull (Waipawa); vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Morrison (Waitotaraj and E. Bowman (Southland); executive, Messrs. J. W. Anderson (Matamata), J. S. Connett (Ttrtoaki), K. \Y. D*lrymple (Rangitikei), C. Johnstone (Raglan). C. Matthews (Cook). G. A Monk (Horowhenua), C. K. Wilson (Waitomo), W. H. Mclntyre (Buller), M. Bethell (AmurJ, R. F. Flatman (Geraldine>, J. Ritchie (Vincent! and C. J. Talbot (Mackenzie!; hon. auditor, Mr. S. Bolton (Pahiatua!; Parliamentary representative, the Hon. J. B. Gow; representative on Town Planning Board, Mr. S. Blackley (Hutt).
