MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT CITY ROUND-UP Motorists who had offended against the traffic regulations of the city appeared at the Police and Magistrale’s Courts this morning. In the Magistrate’s Court, where city traffic department cases were heard, 47 motorists were fined for failing to • produce licences when called upon to do so. This, as Chief Inspector Hogan explained to Mr. F. K. Hunt, ,S.M., was the result of a round-up of motorists failing to produice licences that should have been renewed in March. Mr. F. K. Onnrod, S. J. Atkins. R. Screaton, J. Morgan, R. G. Slyfield, W. A. Carr, A. Pitkethley, E. H. Goodman, W. Brown. L R. Wingrove, W. J. Adams, L. P. Easson, G. Brechon, W. Dromgool, C. Pavitt, J. R. Cook. M. H. .. Iddeson, R. Hayson, W. Keenan, D. Carder, J. S. Cormick, E. A. Tait, P. Lewis, W. Morrison and C. Payne. Dangerous driving cost V. Chambers, who was driving along Manukau Road at 37 miles an hour, £3 and costs; J. F. B. Smith was lined £1 and costs for a similar offence. For driving without a licence C. Grant and M. Brand were fined 10s and costs. Brand was fined a further 10s and costs for failing to stop when requested. Passing a vehicle on a bridge cost W. E. Maxley 10s and costs. POLICE PROSECUTIONS A feature of the police prosecutions this morning was the large number of motorists charged with driving without a rear light. “Good gracious,” said Mr. W. R. McKean, when half the 24 cases had been disposed of, “are there any cars driven in Auckland with taillights?” To-day, for the first time, several motorists were fined under the new motor regulations which in certain cases have reduced the speed limit by five miles an hour. For speeding, H. McLeod, E. Moore, C. H. Lewis and S. Brown were fined £2 and costs; J. C. Walsh, T. M. Wilson, J. W. Sarnson, F. Davis, T. Clements, C. C. Coyte and C. A. Brown were "ined £1 and costs; O. Collesen was fined £1 10s and costs; K. Pitt was fined 10s and L. J. Sterricker and TI. Reynolds were ordered to pay costs only. Breaches of parking regulations cost W. Griffiths, A. Power, W. Hawkins, H. Hutchinson, E. V. Grierson, E. Griffen, J. Fletcher, O. Cole and R. G. Porter 10s and costs. For driving without a licence N. Gi’iffitlis was fined 10s and costs; T. E. Dawdle was fined 5s and costs and E. Shreeve and T. Boyle were ordered to pay costs. Negligent driving was expensive for T. E. Dawdle at £3 and costs, while P. Boyle was ordered to pay costs. For driving without rear lights. M. Tambucka, H. M. Warman, D. G. Stewart, G. Stobie, E. Sandham, T. Phileox, J. Nieper, A. J. Milicith, A. G. Johnston, E. J. Jones, T. J. Housby, B. C. Hercus, J. L. Gregory, R. J. Emerson, A. B. Cleaver. R. C. Colls and A. B. Bevedge were fined 10s and costs. K. Munro, A. G Dann and A. O. Anderson were fined 5s and costs; E. J. ITorrell, W. J. Wheeler and B. W. Beaumont were ordered to paycosts. Omitting to turn on their car lights cost A. B. Fitt and K. Dee £1 and costs. E. H. Brown and D. Mellwaine were fined 10s and costs, while it. McGregor and J. F. Brown were ordered to pay* costs. For other offences J. Motion and E. E. Crothall were fined £1 and costs; A. K. Hunter and R. G. Porter were fined 10s and costs.
