AVONDALE EXPERIMENT BOARD AGREES TO TRIAL An open-air schoolroom, just as an experiment, is to be erected at Avondale South, at the request of the committee. After discussing open-air schools today, the Auckland Education Board decided to make a trial of the new scheme. Both Wellington and Canterbury Boards wrote giving information about their experiments with the open-air type. Canterbury stated that it had definitely decided to erect schools on the open-air principle whenever possible. Mr. S. B. Sims moved that when the opportunity occurred the board should build a school as an experiment. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns: While I think our model school fills all requirements, we would be very stubborn not to try this idea. “The reports show that the schools are in the experimental stage. We should be careful of them,’* said Mi*. H. S. W. King. Mr. F. A. Snell: Very few sites are suitable for open-air schools. Mr. Richard llo© suggested that the school should be tried, and that the architect should be asked to give special attention to lighting. “Give us one at Matamata,” suggested Mr. E. C. Banks.
