MOUNT ALBERT’S VIEWS
LACK OF REPRESENTATION FEARED
“It is quite possible tftiat Mount Albert will not have any say in the spending of the suggested £6,000 on the Auckland Institute and Museum.”
Thus the Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, cautioned his councillors last evening. The council had received copies of the proposed Auckland War Memorial Museum Maintenance Act, but the Mayor, in disagreeing with the suggested contribution from Mount Albert, said that a 50 per cent, population and 50 per cent, capital contribution basis would be more satisfactory. “The city has the institution right in its area, too,” he said. “To me, the expenditure of £6,000 seems to be a very large sum. Then there is the question of adequate representation for the 27 local bodies outside the city.” Cr. H. R. Langley said that £2,000 was stated to be ready lor expenditure and the total would probably be £B,OOO.
Further report on the subject is to be made to the council by a joint committee.
