Captain Hammond arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. R. E* McDougall, of Christchurch, left yesterday by the Aorangi for a visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Sir Basil Blackett, of India, who has been touring New Zeaalnd, left for Sydney by the Aorangi yesterday. Mr. I. G. Goldstine, of Auckland, returned this morning by the Marama ,fter a business visit to Sydney. ivir. W. Goodfellow, who has been on a brief visit to Australia, returned to Auckland to-day on the Marama. Sir Benjamin Morgan, chairman of the British Empire Producers’ Association, left yesterday by the Aorangi fur Sydney. Mr. Claude Piper! proprietor of the Clarendon Hotel. Christchurch, returned from Sydney by the Maram.-to-day. The Rev. D. D. Scott has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Oneliunga Library Committee caused by tho death of Mr. Edwin Hall. Sir George Fowlds was yesterday reelected president of the Auckland University College Council.. Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie was re-elected vice-presi-dent. Sir Ernest Rutherford has been elected by the Austrian Academy of Sciences an honorary member of its mathematics and natural science section. Mr. N. D. Campbell, of North Canterbury, who has been visiting the Royal Sheep Show in Sydney, returned to Auckland by the Marama this morning. Mr. Harry Andrae, of Sydney, a well-known big-game fisherman, arrived by the Marama to-day. He is taking a son, to Hawke’s Bay, to learn sheepfarming. Mr. Forres Marshall, of Takapuna, now on a visit to Australia, is returning to Sydney from Cairns this week. Ho will spend two weeks in Tasmania before returning to Auckland. Professor H. Belshaw, of Auckland University College, has been appointed to the Rural Economics Committee, which has been set up by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Mr. S. Gyllies, of Auckland, is visiting Sydney and will remain there until the end of August. His brother, an old Auckland resident, is now town clerk for the Rydalmere Borough Council, Sydney. Professor A. K. Rule, formerly of Christchurch, arrived from Vancouver by the Aorangi. He is a son of the Rev. Frank Rule, of Christchurch, and is attached to the Presbyterian Theological College, Louisville, Kentucky. • r - a nd Mrs. Hastings Lynn, of the Rookery Nook” Company, which arrived from Sydney by the Marama this morning, will leave for Rotorua, where they will spend a holiday before tho Auckland season opens. Mr. J. B. Wright, 0.8. E.. formerly London manager for the Dairy Produce Export Board, was an arrival in o?* * and to-day by the Marama from Sydney. He was accompanied by Mrs. Wrigh.t Mr. P. w. Maddock, Auckland provincial representative for Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer, who has been attending the annual convention of the film organisation at Sydney, returned to Auckland to-day by the Marama from Sydney.
