NEW RAILWAY WANTED
PAEROA-POKENO BRANCH ACTION BY BOROUGH COUNCIL (Special to THE SUN) PAEROA, Monday. That the trunk system of railways could never be completed until the Paeroa-Pokeno line i* built was the opinion of the Mayor, Mr. W. Marshall, at the meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. He said the line should be commenced as soon as possible, and that it looked as though the issue had been side-tracked. Mr. Marshall moved: “That this council again urge upon the Government the great importance of an early start being made on the construction of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway; that we point out again the great economical gain of a reduction in haulage of 40 miles on the East Coast Main Trunk, that the present necessity for turning the engines at Paeroa is causing a delay of 20 minutes in Paeroa; that the local indications point to tlie fact that tlie East Coast line will quickly develop into a main trunk line, and therefore further delay in starting to cut out the trip via Frankton would probably prove a most serious blunder in a few years. “That this council respectfully submits that already the matter has been too long delayed, if the authorised duplication from frankton North is already necessary, as this might probably have been avoided for many year* had the Paeroa-Pokeno connection been ready.” The resolution was carried, and it was decided to forward a copy to Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P.
