HAMILTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) I HAMILTON, Monday. Miss Vincent, of Timaru, is visiting friends in Hamilton. Mrs. and Miss Aubin, of Firongia, are the guests of Mrs. A. Ramsay, Hillcrest. Mrs. Parke Pit tar, of Gisborne, came this week to live in Hamilton. Mrs. R. Hannon and Mrs. Norman Banks, of Cambridge, motored to Wellington for the races. Miss Cox, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Cox, Hamilton Road, Cambridge. AFTERNOON PARTY On Saturday afternoon Mrs. W. Fraser, president of the Claudelands Croquet Club, and the members of the committee, entertained the club members at Mrs. Fraser’s home in Claudelands. The afternoon passed quickly, with competitions and music, the entertainers being Mrs. Bagley, Mrs. Sayers and Mrs. Fraser. Opportunity was taken to congratulate Mrs. Coombes on her appointment as president of the South Auckland Association and to give to Mrs. Matthews, who is leaving shortly for Auckland, a gift from the club members. The guests were Mrs. W. Fraser, Mrs. B. Bagley, Mrs. W. Sayers, Mrs. J. Matthews, Mrs. G. Cleveley, Mrs. H. Baker, Mrs. A. Bennett, Mrs. H. Mercer, Mrs. A. Hargreaves, Mrs. M. Guded, Mrs. J. Wilson, Mrs. F. Blacklock, Mrs. C. Speight, Mrs. J. Scott, Mrs. F. Lamporth, Mrs. W. Howe, Mrs. H. Curling, Mrs. J. Fow, Mrs. R. Coombes, Mrs. J. Baillie, Mrs. A. Ross and Miss Jones. BRIDGE PARTY On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Clemow, of "Monavale,’ Cambridge, gave a delightful bridge party. Her drawingroom was decorated with blush pink camelias. Mrs. Clemow was wearing a graceful frock of black georgette with diamante ornaments. Miss Clemow was in a nile green georgette frock. The guests were: Mesdamcs Robinson, Horne, Armstrong, Garland. S. Eggleston, O. G. Taylor, Hart, Nelson, R. Cox, Fisher, Souter, Misses Robinson, Armstrong, Garland (3), Eggleston, Jackson, Nelson, McCarroll and Veale. The prize-winners were Miss Armstrong, who obtained the highest score, Mrs. W. Horne, for the hidden number, and Miss Veale for the lowest score. * * * AFTERNOON TEA Last week Mrs. R. M. Wilson, of French Pass, Cambridge, gave a jolly afternoon tea party. Her drawingroom was gay with spring flowers. She was wearing a frock of patterned moonlight blue crepe de chine. Her guests were Mesdamese J. Ritchie, Skeet, S. Lewis, Hawkesby, Bryce, Rush, W. Williams, K. Brown, J. Cox and Miss Taylor, from Invercargill. Y.M.C.A. BRIDGE PARTY On Saturday the Auxiliary Committee of the Y.M.C.A., under the leadership of Mrs. Noel Johnson, organised a most successful bridge party to raise funds for comforts for the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. building. The entertainment hall had been decorated with bowls of wattle and arranged with bridge tables. Among those playing were Mr. and Mrs. Noel Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Cowles, Mr. and Mrs. Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. Masters, Mr. and Mrs. Clapham, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Cranwell, Mr. and Mrs. A. Prizes given for the highest net score were won by Mrs. Reeves and Mrs. Bevin. * * * LADIES’ GOLF MATCH The week-end women golfers organised an exceedingly jolly match between the married and single players. Great enthusiasm was displayed and championship conditions were fulfilled. The result was a win for the singles by seven games to four, two matches being all square. The players were: Mrs. Guy defeated Miss Wilkinson, 5 and 4. Mrs. Day defeated Miss McKenzie, G and 4. Mrs. Bartleet was beaten by Miss Dawson, 2 up. Mrs. Russell was beaten by Miss Madeley, 7 and 6. Mrs. Ross was beaten by Miss Johnson, 2 and 2. Mrs. Cole and Miss Campbell, all square. Mrs. Horton was beaten by Miss Hodgson, 3 and 2. Mrs. Whitehouse was beaten by Miss Cann, 3 and 2. Mrs. Sutcliffe was beaten by Miss M. Ross, 7 and 6. Mesdames Guy and Day were beaten by Misses Wilkinson and McKenzie, 3 ; and 1. Mesdames Bartleet and Russell were beaten by Misses Madeley and Johnson, S and 6. Mesdames Cole and Horton defeated Misses Campbell and Hodgson 4 and 3. Mesdames Whitehouse and Sutcliffe v. Misses Ross and Cann, all square.
