STEEPLES TO NAMERA STIRRING FINISH (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) MELBOUKNE, Saturday. The Victoria Racing Club’s Grand Xational meeting was concluded at Flemington yesterday. The following was the result of the leading' events: GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLES A handicap sweepstake of £ls each, with £2,000 added; about 3 miles and a nulong. NAMERA (X. Turnbull), ch g. by Xnrcisse—Binnimera, 9yrs. 10.1 (S Warner) 1 XYANGAY (J- F. Ryan), b g. by Varco —Gyrtona, Syrs. 11.7 cMclnnes) .. ORAL TREATY (K. «. Calvert), b g, by Beau Brocade —White Flag. 13yrs, 9.3 (Tait) •> Twelve starters. Coming to the last fence Nyangay led the field front Oral Treaty, with Namera two lengths away in third place. Turning into the straight Namera passed Oral Treaty, and was on equal terms with Nyangay. Here the latter appeared to slip and collide with Namera. The latter, however, lost little ground. Inside the distance Nyangay and Namera were racing together, and excitement was raised to a high pitch. The two leaders raced head to head until within 30yds of the winning post. Nyangay then weakened, and Namera, drawing away, won a great race by half a neck, with Oral Treaty four lengths away third. Time. 6.11 i (a course record). DOUTTA GALLA HURDLES A handicap sweepstake of £lO each, with £I,OOO added; 2J miles. VALBEE. b g, by Valais—Linbee, 7yrs, 10.6 1 HENARE, br g, 4yrs, 10.10 2 NOBILITY, b g, 6yrs, 9.5 3 Ten started. In an interesting finish Valbee defeated Henare by half a length. Time, 4.10 J.
