A LARGE FIELD
Prospective Candidates For Hauraki Electorate MANY NAMES MENTIONED There seems to be an extraordinary demand by prospective members of Parliament for the newly-constituted Hauraki electorate. According’ to reports from various parts of the electorate the contest will be a keen one and there may be some heart-burning before an official Reform candidate is chosen. Several names have been mentioned —even more than the average pre-elec-tion rumours warrant.’ The latest is that Mr. Arthur Hall, who* was nominated as the Reform candidate some time ago, has been asked to withdraw in favour of Mr. E. L. Walton, chairman of the Hauraki County Council. On mare than one occasion the name of Mr. S. W. House has been mentioned as an unofficial Reformer, and Mr. E. Allen is among the nominations as Reform candidate for the new seat. The fight should bp a good one, with several flags fluttering. Mr. C. R. Petrie has been nominated as the official Labour candidate and Mr. J. S. de Montalk has been mentioned as the Liberal competitor in the field. It has been reported, though not officially, that Mr. House will be approached by the Reform Party and asked not to stand.
