Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., was welcomed by the Foliee and Bar when he took his place for the first time at the Dargaville Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Mr. G. N. Hayes extended to Mr Luxford a warm welcome and an assurance of the co-operation of both police and counsel. Mr. Luxford suitably replied.
About 70 parents and friends attended the Dargaville School on Wednesday, when a most enjoyable concert was presented by the primary pupils. . Mr. F. Watters rendered much assistance and contributed a suitable item. The programme was well received. Mr. A. E. Reynolds, the headmaster, those present for their attendance, and said this function was a forerunner to one to be held at the High School in about a month’s time.
The Mayor, Mr. F. A. Jones, thanked Mr. Reynolds and paid tribute to the efforts of the teachers in preparing the children.
An early decision is expected as to which route the Kirikopuni-Dargaville branch railway line is to take. Officers of the Public Works and the Railway Departments have recently made an investigation of the alternative routes.
