GENERAL NOTES

During the past week several birds have come up to Auckland trom Christchurch, including a Black Minorca cockerel of the famous "MeNab” strain from Mr. J. Cummings; a Light Sussex cockerel from Mrs. Greenslade; two utility White Leghorn pullets from Green Bros., and one utility White Wyandotte pullet from Mr. C. P. Bradford’s yards. Entries for the Waiuku Show have exceeded expectations, quite a number of exhibits being entered from Auckland and as far North as Whangarei. This show will be held on Wednesday next, and we understand arrangements are being made for a special bus, to run between Auckland and Waiuku, to take exhibitors to and from the show. No doubt fanciers will avail themselves of this opportunity of visiting this popular event. Poultry keepers will be pleased to hear that there is likely to be an exportation of eggs from New Zealand during the coming summer. A deputation from the New Zealand Poultry Association, consisting of Messrs. W. E. Green, president (Christchurch); F. H. Cooper, vice-president (Wellington); James Hutton, Otago; A. Mumby and G. Bates, Wellington; and G. H. Bradford, secretary (Christchurch), recently waited upon the Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, on the question of a subsidy, or guarantee, in respect of the export of eggs. We have received a copy of the schedule of the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club’s show, which will be held in the Scots Hall, Symonds Street, on Thursday and Friday, July 26 and 27. Owing to the show’s clashing with the Auckland Canary and Cage Bird Club’s show, the canary section has been deleted from this year’s show. The club is having the support of the Auckland Game Club, which has allocated two challenge cups for competition. The New Zealand Waterfowl Club is also offering its club cups and specials for competition. The Rhode Island Red Club and the New Zealand Sussex Club have also allocated specials. In addition to the above the Auckland Club is offering a lengthy list of specials and challenge trophies for poultry, pigeons and bantams. The “John Jarvis” Honour Bowl for the best bird in the fancy section, the North Island championships for Light Sussex, Barred Rocks and homing pigeons (male colour class), will also be competed for. Already applications for schedules have been received by the secretary from all parts of the North Island. The venue oi the show is in a popular shopping locality, and no doubt the Auckland public will take the opportunity of visiting the show. It being the last show of the season, only the best birds will be exhibited, consequently the show will virtually be a meeting of champions. The judges are:—Poultry and bantams, Messrs. A. Palmer, W. A. Hanson, W, Wilson, J. R. Boswell and

Geo. H. Ambler. Pigeons, Messrs. W. Ellis, W. Mason and C. Collings. Entries close on Wednesday, July 18. The secretary’s address is: Mr. W. A. Moore, 40 Chester Avenue, Westmere, Grey Lynn. One or two errors have crept into the schedule of the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club. Firstly, entries close on Wednesday, July 18, not Thursday as stated; secondly, owing to deletions in the canary section some matter has also been inadvertently cut out. This is membership fees, which should read; Adults 7s 6d, juniors 3s Cd. The last deletion concerns time of penning, which should read: “All birds to be in place of exhibition by 9.30 p.m. on day previous to show.”
