Paramount Plans to Enter the Field
This corporation has recently completed a deal with the Western Electric Company whereby Paramount acquires full rights to a new and highly perfected device which permits the
synchronisation of sound to filmed action on the screen. “For some months we have been conducting our own experiments, and have already completed one stage where exhaustive tests will be conducted, leading to the time in the immediate future when Paramount will launch its first talking motion picture film,” Mr. Lasky said. “Plans are being drawn for a second large sound-proof stage which will be completed and ready for use within two months. “Our early experiments have been very successful. During the summer our first production utilising various sound effects, including dialogue, will be placed before the camera. Paramount’s technical expert on sound synchronisation, Mr. Roy J. Pomeroy, has left for New York, where he will confer with Western Electric experts, bringing to them a report of his experiments recently carried on in Hollywood. These tests have proved satisfactory.” Mr. Lasky expressed enthusiasm for this development. He said the deal just completed is the result of his close personal study during the last year.
The Paramount Famous Lasky Corporation is prepared to immediately enter the talking motion picture field , according to Jesse L. Lasky, first vice-presi-dent of Paramount.
