NEW APPOINTMENT MADE MR. RHODES WITHDRAWS At a special meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday it was resolved that the resolution appointing Mr. A. E. Rhodes- as engineer to the board be rescinded, and that Mr. F. C. Jacobs, of Auckland, be appointed, providing that all credentials are in order. A letter was read from Mr. Rhodes asking for permission to withdraw his application. He stated that when he lodged the application he had applied for membership to the Society of Civil Engineers, and understood that ho would be elected, but he had since heard that he could not be admitted. Mr. Wallace said that Mr. Jacobs was the second on the list, and was a fully - qualified and competent man. He liad inquired of Mr. Jacobs from several of the leading engineers in the North Island and had received excellent reports concerning him. Mr. Jacobs’s credentials showed that ho held a first-class engineer’s certificate under the Board of Trade; a first-class certificate for electrical theory and magnetism; and had extensive marine experience. He liad also been second engineer at Porirua Mental Hospital and had undertaken the installation of big electrical plants for a number of local bodies throughout tbo Dominion. He had also been employed on the installation of the submarirengines at the Penrose sub-station, and had also made a special study of water filtration and purification for hospital use.
