MISSIONS TO SEAMEN
WEEK’S ACTIVITIES a number of overseas ships have been in port • the Missions to Seamen Institue, Emily Place, has been the scene of much activity during the week. A party of Girls’ Friendly Society girls entertained seamen on Monday evening with music and games. A musical programme, arranged by Mrs. Newbury, was presented on Tuesday evening and a series of New Zealand pictures was also screened. On Wednesday evening Toe H members conducted a whist drive and a football match was also arranged. Last evening Miss Bent and members of the Harbour Lights’ Guild were the hostesses at a social in the institute. During the week the directors of Lewis Eady, Ltd., presented a gramophone for use at the institute. Many bundles of literature were placed aboard the ships and the chaplain, the Rev. H. K. Vickery, is appealing for magazines and illustrated papers as the demand is greater than the supply.
