Orangemen and Catholics Urged To Have Joint Celebration Hay
(United P.A.. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Received 9.5 a.m. OTTAWA, Thursday. A DRAMATIC and sensational move to stimulate observance of Canada’s National Day came on the eve of the Twelfth of July celebrations from Colonel R. H. Steacy, who has for seven years been Grand Chaplain of the Orange Order in Ontario. He urged Roman Catholics and Protestants to hold a joint celebration on July 1 instead of the Freneh-Canadians’ St. Jean Baptist Day on June 24, and the Orange Day on July 12. Great weight is attached to the suggestion because Ontario is overwhelmingly Orange. At Toronto to-day there was a parade 10,000 strong.
