WAIKATO HOSPITAL
DR. G. W. GOWER RESIGNS BOARD’S TRIBUTE TO SERVICES (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. Having been surgeon-superintendent of the Waikato Hospital for nine years. Dr. G. W. Gower tendered his resignation to the Waikato Hospital Board yesterday, as he is entering private practice in Hamilton. The chairman, Mr. C. Johnstone, said that Dr. Gower had filled the responsible position of surgeon-superintend-ent of the board’s hospital with distinction and credit, and his position would be very difficult to fill. The board, in accepting Dr. Gower’s resignation, decided to place on record its high appreciation of his efficient and valuable services. The question of continuing the present system of employing a full-time administrative staff, or adooting the honorary medical staff system, was discussed in committee, and the board unanimously favoured the present system, which it was stated had operated most satisfactorily in Hamilton. It was resolved to request the House and Finance Committee to arrange for filling Dr. Gower’s place.
