Soccer Knockouts
Chatham and Falcon Cup-Ties
Some Interesting Bouts To-Morrow
TO MORROW will be devoted to cup-tie knock-outs with eight games set down for disposal. Principal interest will he centred on the local Chatham Cup final at Blandford Park, where Ponsonby meets Y.M.C.A., and a thrilling struggle for survival should be ■witnessed. Both teams are fit and at full strength, and the issue of the contest is very open. The curtain-raiser will he the Falcon Cup knock-out between Manurewa and Tamaki, two hefty jnnior teams with senior Soccer aspirations. Other Falcon Cup games are. Shore v. Onehunga; Trams v. Belmont; Northcote v. Glen Eden; Rangers v. Corinthians; and Swanson v. Metropolitan.
After a win over Belmont by the narrow margin of the odd goal, Y.M.C.A. meets Ponsonby in the local final for the Chatham trophy, both teams having been exempt from the first round of the Falcon Cup knockouts. Ponsonby, as the holder of the national trophy, is keen on establishing a Dominion record by winning it two years in succession, and the Ponies should have freshened up after the spell last Saturday. Y.AI.C.A. has always been a stubborn combination to put out in cup contests, and is sure to put up a great battle to-morrow in the bout to decide which club will meet the country champions in the eliminating matches to determine who shall represent the Auckland Province at Blandford Park against the Wellington provincial winners.

The Falcon Cup preliminary between Manurewa and Tamaki United will see two of the strongest outer suburban clubs in action. The game has gone ahead by leaps and bounds in both districts, and this season Tamaki applied to enter the senior championship competition. To-morrow’s match should give the spectators a chance of comparing the form of the leading junior clubs with that of the weaker senior sides. Other junior teams to enter the senior knock-out contests are Glen Eden, Rangers, Corinthians, Swanson and Metropolitan. Both Trams and Belmont and the Shore and Onehunga games should provide hard tussles for survival, and the meeting of TvTorthcote with Glen Eden should give an interesting line for comparison.
