Inter-Allied Memorial Now Planned
Belgium and Allies BUILDINGS AT LIEGE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Times Cable. LONDON, Monday. The Paris correspondent of ‘“The Times” says plans for a great interallied memorial, to ’commemorate the brotherhood in arms and the efforts of other countries to relieve Belgian distress, were revealed to-day. The proposed memorial comprises two vast buildings, a church and a museum, to be erected on a hill overlooking Liege, within the fortified zone where the first shots were fired in the Western campaign. The church under a central dome will have chapels dedicated to Britain, France, Italy and the United States, and smaller chapels dedicated to over 30 smaller nations, including the Dominions. Grouped around and above all will rise a campanile 300 ft high. The museum will consist of a tower and a semi-circular gallery, divided into seven pavilions, to be occupied by the principal Allies. These will be decorated with native material from each country, with a floor of its own soil. Belgium will contribute half the cost, £ 50,000. The remainder will be subscribed by the other countries.
